Welcome!

I'm Michael and I'm a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Government at the University of Vienna. Before that, I worked at the Heidelberg Center for Ibero-American Studies (HCIAS, Heidelberg University) and the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES, University of Mannheim).

I obtained my doctorate in political science from the Center for Doctoral Studies in Social and Behavioral Sciences (CDSS) at the Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences (GESS) at the University of Mannheim.

I am currently working on a project called Understanding the Abundance of Constitutional Law in Austria in which we are trying to explain why Austria, next to its main constitutional document, has hundreds of additional documents that have constitutional rank (or include such provisions) that were changed more than 1,000 times in the post-war period, what motives political actors had for these individual laws, and what consequences such an abundance of constitutional law has. In addition to that, my research interests include parties and party competition, intra-party politics, and (coalition) governments.

Below, you can find an overview over my previous publications and related materials. If you want to reach out, you can find links to my profiles on several platforms and my email in the sidebar (or at the bottom of the page if you're on mobile).
